Everyone has a different way of starting their day. Whether it be checking social media or brushing up on the daily news, most people begin their day with the same habit. A guest lecturer in one of classes discussed his morning ritual and I recently began to follow it. The ritual is aimed at increasing productivity by gathering all of your favorite sites in one place so you can get all of your social media and news in 15 minutes or less.

His process was simple enough. It consisted of compiling roughly 10 websites and organizing them into a bookmark folder on your browser. I tried to get a wide variety of sites that can keep me informed on world news, industry news, and my personal sites like LinkedIn. The thought process behind this is to be able to peruse headlines and have quick access to all of your relevant information.

Once you have the websites in your folder you simply right click the folder and select Open in New Tabs.

This feature will open all of your favorite tabs at once so you can scroll quickly between everything. Since starting this as my morning ritual, I have found that my mornings are much more productive. Instead of mindlessly surfing Instagram or Facebook, I now find myself reading more actual news. It is also extremely helpful if you want to stay connected to the latest trends in whatever industry you are interested in. For me, I’ve included sites about design and public relations in order to read about the latest news from real professionals and companies. Although this may take away from the countless memes or puppy videos that Facebook may offer, doing this every morning is a refreshing way to organize yourself and stay informed.
