Getting a job or internship can be hard with competition today. I found that I needed to figure out a way to make myself stand out among my competition. Of course web design was never something that I had imagined myself doing. After some research I found a handful of different website design sites that were free and popular. I decided to go with Wix.com.

My user experience was great when I started using Wix. Everything was easy to find, manage, and snap into place. My site was looking professional and clean in no time whatsoever. Before I begin to sound like a testimonial for Wix, I want to stress how helpful this can be for marketing yourself.

Resumes and cover letters are only the beginning for professionals nowadays. This is especially true in the public relations and advertising world. In many instances part of the application includes a blank that is designated for your website URL. It frightened me when I first saw that on an agency website. Don’t let it frighten you. There are so many tools out there to help you make a stunning portfolio website.

Lastly I want to talk about the content on your website. This is your chance to express yourself. There are no guidelines. There is no “right” way to do it. Your website should highlight your skills, experiences, and most importantly… your PERSONALITY. This is the first chance for the employer to meet you. Do not make a boring site if you aren’t boring. Make a website that you are proud of. I had a blast making mine so I encourage anyone who wants to diversify their portfolio to do the same.

Also here is a shameless plug to my website. Enjoy. beautiful website
